While gushing about my trip to Chicago and Jason's hospitality, I had this exchange with a certain sexy physicist...

me: sometimes i worry that i'm too lucky

New, New, New

All Things Grow, All Things Grow!, originally uploaded by chrisafer.

I haven't even been back from Chicago 12 hours and I already want to plan a return trip. This time without 14 hour workdays.

I was there for a big event for the new job, which I really don't start officially for three weeks, but I finagled some time off from the old one to see this big to-do that I'll be working on.

It was all the thrill of the new. The new (and somewhat more sane) co-workers. The new responsibilities that scare me in the best possible ways, like being called up from the minors. The new friend who was a wonderful (if somewhat dangerous) guide to city's nightlife. The new season with its reminder that weather can be outrageously beautiful. New, new, new.

Yippie!

Not Sweet, Not Sixteen

So my Terps didn't do too well the other day. Against Butler. There were almost more kids in my high school than at Butler. How does such a thing happen? Oh wait, it was Maryland basketball. We can lose to the local CYO if the game counts. So sad.

Here's to UNC and bruised and battered Tyler Hansbrough representing for the ACC.

Perhaps I can do better in MARCH GAYNESS. Likely not.

Speaking of sports, I really have to say I despise the use of the modifier "Lady" when talking about women's teams. I was watching the local sports round-up of the Women's NCAA tourney and cringed each time I heard "Lady Colonials" or "Lady Terps." Something about it seems so diminutive and suggestive that these athletes aren't "real" whateveryourteamnameis but "Lady" whateveryourteamnameis. Those "Ladies" should get together and kick sportscaster ass.

Icing on the Cake

Last night I celebrated the new job with a few drinks with a slew of good friends at Science Club where The Vodka Manx played some great tunes (Brazilian Girls live, mmm). I had a great time. I'm really excited about the future and am glad some friends could share in my happiness.

Afterwards a group of us went to get a bite. As we enter Dakota Fanning Mary's Brokeback Titanburger, what should be on all the screens but the final moment of the VCU-Duke game. Poor Duke. But Dumbek said he'd never seen me so giggly.

I'm suddenly reminded of one of my favorite screencaps of all time...
